MY ROLE
Product Designer: Conducting research; Driving product improvements; Managing the design system; Implementing responsive design and new features; Collaborating with cross-functional teams.
TEAM
I worked with 1 more Product designer, a PO’s team (2 people), a Front-end team (6 people), a Back-end team (3 people), a Q&A team (3 people), a Marketing team (4 people), and other departments.
TOOLS
Figma, Maze, Miro, Jira, Confluence, FullStory, GitHub
Due to NDA, I can’t share all of the data of this project.
The Problem
The challenge at hand was rooted in outdated designs and a lack of an intuitive interface on key pages. Navigating through the system proved difficult, hindering the secure and efficient sharing of presentations. Sorting and filtration processes were also suboptimal. A significant issue arose during the sharing step, where over 80% of users encountered difficulties. This was attributed to a limited number of sharing options that were inadequately explained.
Approach
To overcome these challenges, an iterative design process was adopted. I conducted user research, collaborated on information architecture, and engaged in the detailed refinement of microinteractions. The focus was on addressing minor usability issues and creating a more cohesive, user-friendly experience.
Results: Presentation page
Revamping the page's presentation functionality was a significant undertaking. Below is the enhanced version, now equipped with improved and implemented features.
The challenge at hand involved managing six distinct roles within our application: Authors, User Managers, Authorized Viewers, Restricted Authorized Viewers, Restricted Unauthorized Viewers, and Unauthorized Viewers. Ensuring that the needs of each role were addressed, we dedicated efforts to develop specific features tailored to the requirements of every individual role.
With the implementation of updated designs, we successfully addressed all requirements, ensuring a user-friendly and comfortable usability experience.
Results: Explore page
The Explore page, our app's main hub, received rave reviews and a surge in new users following significant improvements. Highlights include streamlined creation, an intuitive header, enhanced navigation with a 'Filter' feature, and the introduction of a 'Saved' section. We've also improved label hierarchy, introduced new video templates, restructured the video layout, and simplified the user experience by eliminating pagination and adding a 'lazy scroll' feature. These updates not only boosted user satisfaction but also increased our user base, solidifying the positive impact of our enhancements on popularity and usability.
Results: Others pages
Also, my role encompassed elevating the user experience across key pages such as "Manage Presentation" and "Manage Forms," along with introducing a new "My Account" page and upgrading the "Sign Up/Log In" page.
The initial challenges on the "Manage Presentation" page, marked by clutter and difficulty in extracting essential information, prompted a targeted enhancement strategy. To optimize user experience, we implemented changes that showcased crucial details directly on the table, including security settings with intuitive colors and icons, the last edit date, duration, views, and additional information accessible through three dots. These refinements notably streamlined the presentation management process, reducing the need for extra clicks.
Additionally, the "Sign Up" page underwent upgrades to accommodate varied flows for corporate customers, ensuring a distinctive and intuitive experience.
The absence of a dedicated "My Account" page led to the creation of a simple and functional interface for users to manage their accounts.
The outcome was a considerable uptick in positive feedback from existing customers and increased engagement from new users, showcasing the success of these improvement efforts.
New branding and design system
Collaborating with another designer, we embarked on a comprehensive overhaul of our branding and design system. Our primary focus was to establish a fresh set of branding colors that not only boasted superior visual design but also appealed to new users. After careful consideration, we settled on a vibrant pink and blue palette, aligns seamlessly with our product. The impact was immediate, resulting in a noteworthy 12% increase in sales within the first month.
Additionally, despite lacking a pre-existing design system and documentation, we had a wealth of components scattered across various files. Our objective was to consolidate these components into a unified file and, using this foundation, craft a comprehensive design system complete with all necessary documentation. The outcome was the successful delivery of a streamlined design system, accompanied by positive feedback from our team appreciating the simplification it brought to their workflow.
Additionally, we established four breakpoints tailored to different screen sizes, ensuring a dedicated design for each feature at every breakpoint.
Outcome
In addressing the challenges of outdated designs and navigation difficulties, our iterative design approach, including micro interaction refinement and user research, successfully transformed key pages like the Presentation and Explore pages. This resulted in streamlined functionality, enhanced user satisfaction, and increased user engagement. Furthermore, the comprehensive overhaul of branding colors and the introduction of a design system, a collaborative effort with another designer, contributed to a remarkable 12% increase in sales. Throughout these endeavors, I was fortunate to work with a dynamic and diverse team, collaborating closely with product owners, designers, developers, QA, marketing, and various other departments. This collaborative synergy underscored the success of our multifaceted improvement efforts, and I am proud to have been part of such a cohesive and impactful team.
